Default Wet August in Belgium

A Belgian amateur observer in the village of Haasdonk about 15 km SW of
Antwerp has recorded 232.6 mm rain in the first 14 days of August -
including 57.4 mm today.

Various places around Antwerp and on the Belgian coast suffered
flooding today as a consequence of the heavy rain. House basements
and roads were under water in places. A road tunnel in Antwerp and
the coast road between St Idesbald and Koksijde had to be closed for a
time. At Koksijde the seafront promenade was flooded and had to be
pumped clear by the fire brigade.

Yesterday a man was injured when struck by lightning while windsurfing
during a thunderstorm near Ostend.
