Default Today's model interpretation (18/08/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Tuesday. Issued
0531z, 18 August 2006.

The models continue to show increasingly settled weather for the middle of
next week as high pressure moves in from the west.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
A ridge covers the UK, with NW'lies for England and Wales and SW'lies
elsewhere. A new ridge builds to the west at T+144, leaving the UK under
WNW'lies and westerlies. By day 7 the ridge covers the UK with light winds
for all.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The Met Office run shows a ridge over the UK with westerlies for most areas.
The exceptions are western Scotland and Northern Ireland, which lie under
SW'lies instead.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
Light wionds and a col cover the UK. The col is replaced by a ridge and
light westerlies at T+144, but by T+168 the ridge moves SE'wards as low
pressure deepens to the north. The result is a westerly flow across the UK.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
NW'lies and westerlies cover much of the UK, due to a ridge atop the British
Isles.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows a ridge to the south and a high to the north, with
NNW'lies for much of the UK.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NGP is similar to JMA, albeit with less of a high to the north. Winds are
SW'lies for Northern Ireland, with NW'lies elsewhere.
