Wet enough for you? :-) Well, yes, but considering the severe weather warning that was out for us this morning, we didn't get as much as I'd have expected. I've recorded 11.9mm today, and 15mm yesterday. It's made the 1 inch I was hoping for, but not by a lot. I just checked the spring, which I suppose will take a while to respond, as I assume the water takes quite some time to come down through the hill, and the collection pool is up about 5 inches above the point from where our pipe extracts the water. But that's still a foot or so down from its usual level (though of course we're now extracting a constant trickle from it to replenish our tank). With any luck, though, we should now get through to the wet weather we should be able to expect in the coming season. One minute not enough water, the next:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/mid/5269300.stm I think it's a bit extreme to call it a flood, but that's the media for you! We've just been walking this evening down by the Ystwyth in the Hafod estate, and there are clearly paths which the river often takes that are still not flowing. This is just three miles or so from the site of that rescue. Maybe "rising water" would have been a netter term, though not so good for headline grabbing. I think, though, with now 39mm of rain in the last three days, our water supply is safe! ![]() Adrian -- Adrian Shaw ais@ Adran Cyfrifiadureg, Prifysgol Cymru, aber. We have a borehole for household water but a well feeds the troughs and that well had fallen to 2 feet of water. Further, the grass was not growing as strongly as I would have liked. The water table at the well has risen to 4 feet and, presumably, still rising. The grass should also improve now. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |
