Default A milder easterly ?

Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do.

I don't mean to put too much of a dampener on things but it is certainly a
possibility that if winds swing round into the east next week it could get
warmer :-O as milder mediterranean air is entrained. This would mean that any
snow is only likely to be over high ground.

Just thought I'd throw that in eg

Will.

Personally.....I hope this happens...for reasons often stated by the
'non-snow' folk in this group. Roll on spring !!

Excellent news - rather like Feb 1975 (74?) then: largely anticyclonic,
but mild. Good chance to get some early season cycling in then

Looks to me as though the air we'll eventually get will have come from
the eastern Med rather than the western Med though (where Egypt is
currently very warm), leaving there as a southerly or south-easterly
flow and then coming to us as an easterly. However we should get a
couple of days of cold before the warmer air arrives, and it may only be
temporary. Both the GFS and ECMWF models seem to suggest this.

To clarify, the second sentence was intended to refer to milder air
arriving after a couple of days of cold. The ECMWF runs available don't
go out far enough to tell what will happen after that (even the milder
air arriving is something of an extrapolation). The latest GFS run seems
to generate a low in the region of Iceland about 10 days out and then
brings it south-east, becoming very slow moving near south-east England
and maintaining cold air across the country.
