Default Today's model interpretation (4/09/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Friday. Issued 0532z,
4 September 2006.

GFS is out on a limb with its unsettled output today. The other major models
show a settled and warm outlook, with high pressure dominating the UK this
weekend.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
High pressure covers England and Wales with light winds. Scotland and
Northern Ireland lie under SW'lies, followed by more of the same at T+144.
By T+168 a new high lies to the west of Scotland with SW'lies for most of
the UK.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The Met Office run shows a high over northern England, with ENE'lies and
easterlies to the south and SW'lies for Northern Ireland and Scotland. By
T+144 the high moves eastwards with a ridge persisting over the UK. Winds
remain ENE'lies for England and Wales, with westerlies for Scotland and
light winds over Northern Ireland.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
Low pressure is centred over the UK with strong winds for all. The low fills
and moves NE'wards at T+144, leaving westerlies over England and Wales,
light winds over Northern Ireland and northerlies for Scotland. A col covers
the UK at T+168 with light winds for all.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
The UK lies under brisk easterlies, with high pressure to the north and a
low to the south.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows high pressure over the North Sea, with a ridge across
England. Winds are southerlies for Scotland and Northern Ireland, SE'lies
for Wales and SW England with ENE'lies elsewhere.

Not entirely alone - Wetterkarte suggests similarly unsettled weather.

I guess that must just have been a rogue run - now they're back to
forecasting settled weather.
