Please can someone tell me when this boring high is going to die?

Nothing but gloom here with this NW wind!

Hang on in there Graham. it was like that here until yesterday, which was
fabulous. In fact, if the sun had stayed out Sat night, would have been a
pretty good 24 hours or so!
Back to gloom today, now drizzling.

Sorry to have to say it but took the dogs out for a stroll after lunch
down here in Dorset and it was really fantastic - nice sunny
afternoon. Ruined later by a tedious meeting in which many people more
or less fell asleep!
Cheers Robin

If it's any consolation Graham, here in High Wycombe we've just seen the
first bit of sun since last Sunday morning (Oh, the sun has gone all shy on me
again... the gloom has returned). In fact since 26th January until this
morning, we've had just 20 minutes' sunshine here. And as for all the mild
weather, the only mild day here was Thursday 3rd Feb when the max temp hit the
dizzy heights of 8.3C. The rest of this so-called mild week the max temp only
managed 6.8C!

Oh, and from lunchtime Wed 26th to Sunday 30th Jan it never stopped
raining/drizzling here!

I have come to the conclusion that here on the Chilterns just north of High
Wycombe is one of the coldest, gloomiest places in the country. And in the last
13 months, High Wycombe has been reported on the national weather forecasts as
being the coldest place in Britain no less that 4 times! The mean max temp here
used to be approx 2C below the forecast max temps, but this last few years it's
nearer 4C lower! Twice in the last fortnight I have driven through Amersham on
the Hill (approx the same height above MSL) to home and the temp dropped 4.5C
between Amersham and home.

January has certainly NOT been noted here for being sunny and warm, although we
DID enjoy 2 nearly completely sunny days on the 22nd & 23rd, but it was
perishingly cold! In fact in the late afternoon of the 22nd it snowed heavily
for 30mins.

The last time we saw the sun at sunrise was 14 days ago - i.e. the 23rd January.

And according to the forecast, it looks like more rain/snow & gloom until Monday
at the earliest!
