Hallo, everyone.
At least 25 waterspouts were observed early yesterday morning in Irakleio, Crete, as the air has been notably unstable over Greece during the last few days. Pictures from an anonymous photographer can be viewed he http://dias.aueb.gr/~kxv/kriti/ws5.jpg http://dias.aueb.gr/~kxv/kriti/ws2.jpg http://dias.aueb.gr/~kxv/kriti/ws1.jpg Thundery downpours in Athens on a daily basis since September 18th. More than 100 mm of rain already in 4 days for downtown Athens in a month seems to be a successor of some very wet Septembers in recent years. Pictures by Petros Vassiliou can be viewed he http://nifada.com/diary/2006/images2...006-09-20a.jpg http://nifada.com/diary/2006/images2...006-09-20b.jpg http://nifada.com/diary/2006/images2...006-09-20c.jpg http://nifada.com/diary/2006/images2...006-09-20d.jpg And a nice time lapse video, again by Petros Vassiliou, from the Sep 18th thunderstorm showing the sunset just after Notice that the thunderstorm was centred more or less downtown, until it finally reached the NE suburbs, where the camera was: http://nifada.com/time_lapse/storm_2006-09-18.wmv Finally, an animation from the same date. Could it be ball lightning? Pics again by Petros Vassiliou: http://nifada.com/diary/2006/images2006/ball_large.gif That's all for now. All the best, Yannis, Bilthoven/NL |
