Since its moment of fame three years ago we have heard little
from Brogdale (Faversham), not was it well-known prior to that. I would have thought it would have cropped up occasionally as one of the warmest places in England both before and after Aug 2003, although being a climatological station it only reports at the end of the month. I find myself in agreement with Burt and Eden (Weather, Sept 2004) that the 38.5°C is too high. Does the Met Office still regard it as valid? I was always suspicious of it and after recent conversations with Ian Currie (who visited the site the following day, though coincidentally) even more so. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
