0850z WSW F3 25km 7Ci250 10.8/10.4 1021.3
RMK: Lanes now very muddy with standing water in
several places; a little standing water also in fields that
were ploughed and sown (previously fallow) only five
weeks ago. (Glacial deposit clay atop the chalk).

09-09: Tx xx Tn 6.4 Tg 1.2 RR xx sss(00-24) xx
53.0mm of rain since Oct 2 making 57.3mm for the month
so far ... I'm now going to try to apportion it with the help
of a TSR chart with nine days of traces on it (which will
probably take all morning). Tx since Oct 2 has been 20.2.

.... there will be a goodly number of people on this newsgroup who won't
appreciate what that statement implies: all I can say is "good luck" &
don't go too boggle-eyed in the process ;-)

I finished with an aggregate of 52.5mm from the TSR chart against
53.0mm from the rain-gauge -- appreciably closer than I sometimes
get! If anyone's interested:
2nd 0.9
3rd 0.5
4th nil or tr
5th 4.1
6th 17.3
7th nil or tr
8th nil or tr
9th 20.0
10th 1.5
11th 8.2

snip various

.... An _excellent_ result I would say! Most I've had to do was 4
days-worth after an extended 'stand-down' (probably a Bank Holiday), and
that was fairly straightforward as there wasn't too much rain about! The
worst ones (both single-day and multi-day) are those involving
snow/melting snow! In my day, all offices tended to have light slopes
(or light boxes), and I found that putting the chart (reversed) on one
of these and using the bright light shining through would aid following
the overlapping traces where 'conflict' occurred - still a tricky
operation though.
