Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0510z, 21 October 2006. **NB - There won't be an analysis issued tomorrow as I'll be staying overnight near the wolf centre** The outlook remains generally unsettled for the latter half of the working week, although there are signs of high pressure settling things down for the weekend. Despite double-digit minima being forecast via GFS, temperatures would be a fair bit lower under clear skies and low winds - possibly cold enough for a touch of ground frost in sheltered areas. ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif Southern England lies under easterlies from a low to the SW, while a trough to the WNW brings westerlies to northern Scotland. Elsewhere, winds are light due to a col. A mixture of northerlies and NW'lies covers the UK at T+144 as a ridge moves eastwards. By day 7 winds are light across the UK due to a high over Ireland. MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif The MetO run shows a trough over Ireland, leading to SE'lies across the UK. A ridge builds to the west at T+144 and this brings a complete change in the wind direction, with NW'lies across the UK instead. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm Brisk easterlies cover the UK, with low pressure to the SW. A ridge builds at T+144, resulting in light winds for Scotland with easterlies elsewhere. By day 7 winds fall light across the UK due to a ridge. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html Unavailable at time of issue. JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows a low over Biscay and a mixture of ENE'lies and NE'lies as a result. NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif A col covers the UK with light winds for most. The exception is northern Scotland, which lies under northerlies from complex low pressure to the NE. |
