Default "Meeja" reporting at its finest

London is awash with "free newspapers" as of about August this year,
and I picked up "London Lite" tonight to see what they had to inform me
about on the journey home. Although, from the following sensationlist
article, I'd quite like to replace the L at the start of Lite with
"Sh", if you pardon my language.

ROFL

-----------------------------------------------------
Headline: "One week's rain torrential Tuesday"

London was lashed by a week's worth of rain last night and there is
more freak weather on the way.

The Indian summer the capital had enjoyed suddenly turned nasty with
torrential downpours. Severe conditions are set to ease off today but
will be back with a vengeance by Friday with 60mph winds, storms and
flooding.

The change in the weather came as Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett
warned that climate change is putting the political stability of entire
nations at risk. The Met Office said some of London and the South-East
were hit by up to 20mm of rain in 12 hours.
-----------------------------------------------------

Yes folks - that's an average of 1.7mm/hr give or take a decimal place.
I think that falls into the "moderate" category of rainfall if I recall
correctly on radar scale, and which would be a very generous word to
describe this sort of reporting ! Note the "bad weather and the worst
is yet to come" media mantra at the start !!

Richard

That is absolutely pathetic. Are we becoming a country of wimps.
20mm in 12 hours is diddly squat in these parts and not exactly unknown in
London either!
"Freak" - give me strength. The journo deserves to be sacked.

Will.

Actually what's more freak is the *warmth*, but oh no nobody dare call it that!
Warmth is good, rain is freak.

:-( :-( :-(
