Looks like there's some interesting weather heading up here in the next 24 hours. -- Steve Loft Sanday, Orkney. 5m ASL http://sanday.org.uk/weather |

Not too worried about the rain here on Fair Isle - small catchment area and
it quickly runs into the sea. Much more of a problem for mainland Scotland and the bigger islands though - could be 24 hours of it. The strong to gale - possibly severe gale F9 - E'ly veering NE'ly, then N'ly could be interesting'. First 'real' gale of the winter is always the tester. Quickly finds all those bits and pieces left lying around that you should have tidied up! Also I see that a N'ly 6-7 metre swell is predicted byFriday. Glad I'm 60m asl! We're about 100m from the high water mark here (it's at the end of our garden), but on south facing Kettletoft Bay. I'm assuming - perhaps incorrectly - that we'll be OK with this one, but I do know that under certain conditions we can expect the sea to come half way up the garden. -- Steve Loft Sanday, Orkney. 5m ASL http://sanday.org.uk/weather |

I actually forecast a large mag quake on the basis of this Lowest of the Lows that we have had for a while. Actually down into the 970's (wow!) if this is correct: http://www.westwind.ch/?link=ukmb,ht...racknell+13 2 I don't remember seeing one of them (shallow though it is) in a long while. (My reasoning on the quake of course is that should the weather be doing otherwise than what I think it should be doing, the reason is that a severe "earthstorm" is brewing. It's going ashore fairly far south in Norway too that is a change for the better IMNVHO.* I have to say that I have been flumoxed by the fact that all through the year since April or thereabouts, the weather has been other than it should have been but things seemed to come back just after equinox. So I thought to chance my arm once mo http://groups.google.com/group/sci.g...d99fb2e3e8da/#) *Or not as the case may be. The fact it is going to go ashore via S Norway makes it more likely to be an earthquake than a volcanic eruption. I based that on the fact that most of this years's lows have gone north of Norway altogether and that coincidentally there have been few large mag quakes this year and the third coincifdent is that there have or seem to have been a lot more powerful volcanic storms than in most other years. It's difficult to quantify them aparently. |

Yes, I always post in plain text. The problem is caused by OE, after saving a post in 'drafts' it turns the message body into 2 text files, I didn't intend to send it. Karl, Orkney. |

Well, it led to my discovering that Turnpike selects a text editor or viewer rather than an HTML browser to view text files. Which is interesting to know, if without any immediate application. -- Peter Thomas |
