T comes from the Latin "tinius" which means "mini".

That was a T4-5 ISTR - and was a tornado spawned by a thunderstorm which
had supercell characteristics which the London one wasn't (updraught
tightening in a squall - see Will Hand's piece in the tornado - nw
london thread).

I read that, and it agrees with what I saw, only thankfully the
'rollng' bit was well high up when it crossed us, I quote from a
yesterday post:-

Hello, the weather in Dartford at 11 Am was a mixture of thunder, hail and
followed by a heavy downpour.

Indeed, I live up high near Death Valley hospital, and it was
impressive over london when the tornado hit - Blacker than the ace of
spades!! . I had a look out the windows, and the front of the system as

it hit us had lots of greenish grey cloud ' rolling' along, I thought
it looked ominous at the time..... only counted three flashes of
lightning during the whole event . Before the rain started could hear a

deep rumbling/roar sound i've not hear before, wasn't a plane
though............. as we are 25miles from the event don't know if it
was related.. be interested to know from any stormchasegeeks if thats
normal!. Rain p'eed down followed by a brief hail event, nothing big,
2-3mm diameter stuff. Whole thing was past in 15 mins
