I've been bought a LaCrosse ws2300 for Christmas (as the result of a
random remark some months ago!).
It's set up and working fine (although I'm surprised at some of the lack
of high wind speeds I'm getting; and while the Heavy Weather software
works fine, the publisher module is defeating me at them moment).

What I now need is some background reading to help me get the best from
the readings I'm getting, and to help me towards a better understanding
of the subject.

I'd prefer a real physical book (or books), rather than websites - but,
hey, you lot are the experts!
Searching Amazon wasn't very enlightening.
Having some scienctific content doesn't worry me unduly (I'm a scientist
(Biomedical Scientist) by profession) but I don't want a heavyweight
learned tome - after all I'm dipping my toe into a possible new hobby.
So go ahead and suggest!

Have you looked at the FAQs? There are many suggested articles for
further reading in it, as well as an overall view of the subject.

I'm no expert and there are far more learned people on this news group
than I. However, as an electrical engineer, I found "Elementary
Meteorology" published by HMSO absolutely invaluable. It explains the
basics in a scientific, but not overly complicated fashion.

I'm not sure if it's still available new although Amazon have it listed
on their "new and used" section from GBP 6.23

Unfortunately you'll find the ws2300 anemometer pretty unreliable. Despite
carefully locating, my setup never recorded speed with any reliability and
stopped working within a year (wind direction still works OK though).

The rest of the ws2300 works really well though - and quite accurate
checking against rain and temperature readings from other local stations,
I'm sure you'll have great fun with it.
