Perth, Australia - Mean daily max Jan 31.6 Today Perth max 19.9 -
feels freezing here! You would have a lot to write about if temps in
Southern England were some 11 degs below normal giving you max's of
about minus 5!

And Melbourne got some very low maxima about a week of so ago,
14/15C or something like that, plus a white Christmas over some of the
mountains. What is going on down there, presumably exceptionally cool
southerly blasts from the Antarctic.

I've just read in another group that 2006 in Australia was only the 11th
warmest year since comparable recordings began in 1910.

The BoM have just released their annual summary. For Australia as a whole
it was also wetter than average. Its just that most of the rain fell here
in the north, over the cape and not where most of the population is

It's quite something when the temperature differences between Australia
in summer and the UK in winter are next to nothing.... Similarly, it
was impossible to determine whether the weather report for
"Christchurch" in the papers was talking about New Zealand or Dorset...
