December 2006 in Lundie, Angus, in the Sidlaws, 10 miles NW of Dundee.
December had a very unsettled first half, with heavy rain, strong winds, and mild temperatures; it was then dry and cold, but with a wet and stormy New Year's Eve. In spite of the prolonged dry spell it was still the wettest December I've recorded. The low of -6.1C on Christmas morning was the lowest reading of the year; dense freezing fog led to thick rime and it at least looked like a White Christmas! We had thunder, lightning, a rainbow at sunset, crepuscular rays, all on New Year's Eve. A selection of photographs of the New Year's Eve events can be found http://web.mac.com/trevor.harley/iWe...20web%202.html. Average maxima = 6.9 Average minima = 1.3 Overall average = 4.1 C (+0.2) Highest maximum = 12.3 (10th) Lowest maximum = 1.6 (127th) Lowest minimum = -6.1 (25th) Total rainfall = 98.3 mm (159%) Most in a day = 18.0 mm (31st) Taking the year as a whole, at 9.0C it was slightly beneath my ten-year average here. With 857.6 mm of rain, it was relatively wet (117%). All readings (except grass minimum) via a Davis Weather Monitor II (now somewhat broken).
