I don't know much about how they go about recording weather at Exeter
Airport but it has occurred to me that the temperatures they report are always about 1C - 2C above anything else around here in south east Devon at an equivalent altitude. The airport is about 6 miles from here and I drive by it everyday. The car thermometer confirms my own weather data which shows that the temperature does not change between here and the airport by anything more than 0.5C; yet I can never get readings as high as the airport's readings - electronically or manually. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 80 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Nick, The reported temperatures on the METARs are consistent with those recorded at the Met Office today. Jon. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

The temperatures are consistent with those that I record in Teignmouth
(unofficial), Teignmouth's official temperatures and an adjacent site at Holcombe http://www.dawlishweather.co.uk/ One possible explanation is a mini Fohn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%B6hn_wind) effect created by mild moisture laden air descending on the Eastern side of Dartmoor, when the winds are fast moving from a S to SSW direction. It's no surprise to me that Teignmouth recorded the warmest temperature in the UK on Friday & Saturday. Exeter Airport is almost due North of Teignmouth. |

It's happening again!!
At 19:00 today Exeter Airport is reporting 14C (and has been since 14:00). On both my mercury and electronic thermometers I can only manage 12.8C. Currently at 19:10, 12.7C, RH 89%, DP 11.0, 1000.8 mb (R), Wind 12.0 mph SW gusting 22.0 mph. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

I agree with you Nick.
14C is a bit high and 1 degree higher than was forecast. My car thermo said 13C in Exeter after the warm front had gone through. 13 also ties in with my max. of 10.9 here in Haytor. Will
I've been noticing that Exeter Airport has been reporting high temperatures for quite a while now, at least since last May. On some days the anomaly can be as much as 3C (though generally it is between 1 and 2C higher). It seems that the biggest difference occurs when the sun is shining. Night time temperatures can also be quite high but the airport is slightly more exposed than my station, especially to the south and west so that might explain this. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 80 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Also,
Although this doesn't relate directly to Exeter Airport, I've noticed that the pressure readings posted in the window of Teignmouth Meteorological Station are always wrong, by a considerable amount. The values I post here are my own, and I verify them against Exeter Airport's pressure readings, and the Met-Office charts posted on Wetterzentrale.de http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/bracka.html Has anyone else at the Met-Office noticed the error, and informed Teignmouth Meteorological Station that their instruments need re-calibrating? |
