Default Coming? Cold spell.

Hi, just been a bit surprised at the lack of comment on the media,GFS
and ECMWF forecast cold spell at the end of the month. GFS has been
'twitchy' for a bit now after T=216, ECMWF has shown the jet heading
south of UK with a marked diffluence over the south of UK which is in
line. Can't get UK forecasts that far out. Will scratch around later
for the rest.
Have I finally flipped or is this really interesting?
Cheers

It has been quite noticeable how no one really takes anything seriously
beyond 7 days ahead, but certainly GFS keeps looking for colder weather
type towards the end of January. GFS has been much less extreme this
winter, I reckon they must have tweaked down the volume controls on snow :-)

I think we've all lost hope and won't really believe it until it
actually happens.

As for the media all you can say is " ........."

Perhaps shows some promise for February, who knows, I guess we'll read
it in the Express tomorrow.

We've learnt that nothing past 5 days is ever correct - unless it's mild
zonality that is.
I'm still waiting for the media's -12C and blizzards this week! Good old
Piers.

A really cold snap before the end of January is
a 'no brainer'. Unless Gaussian distribution has
been revoked :-)
