Default A628 closed due high winds

A628 Sheffield-Manchester Woodhead Pass is closed this morning due to the
high winds.

Can't remember hearing of this happening before. There are obviously plenty
of closures for snow, but surely it's up to drivers to allow for gusty
winds? Could understand banning high-sided vehicles.

Both roads were closed at some point this morning. Apparently 2 lorries blew
down on the A628 and a tree blocked the A57 for a time. Later reports that
the tree was uprooted and thrown across the road are believed to be
exaggerated. The A628 was not re-opened following an accident near to Flouch
because of dangerous conditions.
There were a fair number of road closures this morning in the area. The A1,
M18 were affected and the M18 was still closed this evening when I drove
home, because of lorries on the road in both directions.
Hardly noticed it here in the valley.
