Saw some interesting landings today !
Highest gust appears at: EGLL 110850Z 23030G49KT 9999 -RA BKN016 OVC030 11/08 Q1006 Phil .. SUBJECT: HIGH DELAY HEATHROW .. OPERATORS AND ATC UNITS ARE ADVISED THAT THERE ARE HIGH DELAYS FOR ALL TRAFFIC DESTINATION LONDON HEATHROW .. DELAYS ARE CAUSED BY REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO STRONG WIND .. AVERAGE DELAY IS ++160++ MINUTES .. THE CURRENT SITUATION IS THAT TRAFFIC IS HOLDING AN AVERAGE OF ++50++ MINUTES. THIS IS LIKELY FOR THE NEXT ++3++ HOURS, OPERATORS SHOULD FUEL ACCORDINGLY. .. THE 3000 FT WIND IS 75 KTS, THIS IS CREATING SOME PROBLEMS IN THE APPROACH SECTOR. SFC WIND IS 24KTS GUSTING 37KTS. I, personally, experienced a very un-nerving landing just before midday - you could feel the fuselage being buffeted by the crosswinds. It must have been a nightmare for the pilot to hold it together...it was about as much as the passengers could do not to be ill... |

It's a frightening thought. |
