Well we have a snow cover, 1cm or so and a temp below zero.
Life here is hard and we do not know how we will cope. I assume the Daily Express will launch an emergency appeal and somehow a helicopter will drop food parcels. Will, if you can spare a log, we would appreciate it, but don't know if you could get it here. Will update on the conditions if possible. -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |

Nice one David and if your relief supplies come in from the NW they might spare a crumb or two for me as they pass over Gilling. Intermittent snow showers and that lazy north wind almost like a real winter. |

The temperature almost reached freezing at one point, and we have had sufficient snow to give a very light covering, but much of it is forming drifts as deep as half a centimetre in places. Things are so bad we have decided to try to make it over to Kirkwall for essential supplies before things get really bad. This is assuming we can make it to the ferry terminal in the 4x4. I am praying that the ferry has been fitted with an ice breaker. I don't know what we'd have done if it hadn't been for The World's Greatest Newspaper and their timely warnings. Currently 2.8C, dp -1.8C, wind F5 NW'ly. Good luck, David. -- Steve Loft Sanday, Orkney. 5m ASL http://sanday.org.uk/weather |
