I know that NW isn't going to be the very coldest direction in winter and this NW wind is really just coming round a high pressure system and hasn't come from anywhere really cold but even so, surely I would expect at least average temps, say 6C? This *is* supposed to be the very coldest time of year! -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

This *is* supposed to be the very coldest time of year! I'm sure a significant factor is the higher sea temperatures we are seeing around our shores. I compared the current temps with an average map for the 1960s only yesterday. Nearly all areas are at least 2C above the long term mean, and a few are about +3C (parts of the North Sea for example). It's curently between 9C and 10C off the NW of Ireland. -- Mike Tullett - Coleraine 55.13°N 6.69°W posted 27/01/2007 16:23:12 GMT |
