Brussels Uccle site where observations started in 1833.

Average January temperature will be between 7.1ºC and 7.3ºC.
Previous mildest January was in 1834 with an average of 6.9ºC.

Not surprising that daffodils are already in full bloom on the grass
by the Porte de Hal museum in the centre of Brussels http://

this ending month should be the mildest one in three centuries also in
De Bilt, The Netherlands. Quoting the superb knmi.nl site, the old
record of 6.2C, set in January 1921, 1975 and 1983 should be overpassed
by almost a whole degree C. Average January 2007 temperature will be
+7.1C, an overwhelming 4.3 degrees above the 1971-2000 average!

Elfstedentocht ("eleven towns race"). Not annual but only held when
the ice is thick enough. After the warmest January in 3 centuries,
prospects for this year look rather dim ...

Last time it was held was in 1996 and, before that, 1986.
