This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the
privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may
unfold in Devon next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility
whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the
spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy
and wish to share freely with others.

Summary valid for Saturday 03/02/07 to Saturday 10/02/07
TOI (time of issue) Thursday 01/02/07 2100 UK local time

This forecast is for all areas in Devon south of the A30 as far west as the
Tamar and as far east as the Exe.

Headline summary:

High confidence that the week will start colder and sunny with frost at night.
Moderate confidence of a wet and possibly a very windy spell of weather from
Wednesday onwards. Low confidence in any detail after Monday.

Synoptic summary:

High pressure re-developing near Iceland will drive a cold, bright arctic
airmass south over Britain during the weekend. However, around mid-week Atlantic
fronts will start to make inroads into the UK introducing a spell of wet and
windy weather from the southwest. The rain is likely to turn to snow from the
Midlands northwards, especially over high ground where blizzards and drifting
are possible. So anyone travelling north mid-week is advised to check on the
weather forecast. A small chance of snow in Devon, but likely to be transient
and confined to Dartmoor.

Detailed forecast:

Saturday looks like being fine and sunny with light, mainly easterly winds and
maximum temperatures in the range 6-10C depending on altitude. Frost on Saturday
night, lowest temperature -3C but generally 0 to -1C.

Sunday will see a bit more cloud but staying dry with light winds and sunny
spells. Maximum temperatures 5-9C depending on altitude. A frost returning in
the evening, lowest temperatures -2C.

Monday will again be dry with spells of sunshine and light winds. Max.
temperature 4-8C depending on altitude. Another frost on Monday night, possibly
down to -5C in places in the cold air.

Most of Tuesday should be dry but cloud will increase during the day with a
freshening south or southeast wind. Max. temperatures around 5C but only 2 or 3C
over Dartmoor with a wind chill setting in. Rain, with some light sleet or snow
over Dartmoor, on Tuesday night into Wednesday. No frost with temperatures in
the range 1-4C depending on altitude. Winds becoming strong southeasterly
overnight.

Wednesday looks like being a thoroughly wet and cold day with spells of heavy
rain. Possibly sleet or wet snow over the high parts of Dartmoor above 500m asl.
Winds possibly strong to gale SE'ly swinging into the SW later in the day and
then easing off. Temperatures starting at 1-4C depending on altitude but rising
later in the day to 4-7C.

The rest of the week looks like remaining unsettled with bands of heavy rain and
showers passing through with fresh to strong winds mainly in the southwest
quadrant. Thunder and hail are likely and possibly some more sleet or wet snow
at times on high Dartmoor. Some sunny intervals, and frost unlikely. Maximum
temperatures in the range 5-8C.
