Carole Kirkwood alluded to your 14 cm on news 24 at 1 pm - unfortunately she
said that parts of Bedfordshire had reported 14 inches!

Eeeeek! What a clever goil.

I've just come back from a long walk across the
Downs and back through the village ... depths vary enormously ...
generally less than 5cm and locally barely 1cm along the summit
of the scarp slope (as you'd expect), but as much as 20cm by
the Tree Cathedral and along the sheltered fringe of the village
green. I think my 15cm slightly over-represents the average for
the whole general area (maybe 12cm?) but it's perfectly
representative of the weather-station site.

Now been able to measure the rainfall ... 11.7mm which gives
a ratio of about 13:1 ... about right for the fluffy stuff we've
had today. Temp now (1400z) +0.2°C.

Lots of pics - still in the camera .....

Philip

Probably will have, sadly. I wonder whether you've had a
contribution from stuff blown off the Chiltern ridge.

I have just measured the rainfall by judicious use of a hairdryer - 8.4mm
which gives a a ratio of 15:1. I don't think that the collector held all of
the snow and the tipping bucket design will probably have lost some of the
melt.

The thermal shield seems good as there was no effect on the temperature
reading when I melted the snow. Temperature 1.6°C

Lots of pictures - now on my PC.

That's interesting, Philip. Exactly the same ratio as I got at 09z this AM,
5.4 mm melted, 7cm depth.
