The 0900-0900 reporting convention has thrown up a quirky anomaly here
today. The maximum temperature attributed to yesterday actually occurred at 0900z today while the minimum temperature attributed to today actually occurred at 0900z yesterday. This has occurred because of the continuous rise in temperature from 0900z yesterday to 0900z today. Norman. This has occurred because of the continuous rise in temperature from 0900z yesterday to 0900z today. That sort of event is a fairly common occurrence here, particularly in the colder seasons when nights can be warmer than days. I see two options. 1) If I feel I am measuring 0900-0900 then it doesn't matter anyway. Whatever happened between those times is fine regardless of what time it happened. i.e. no anomaly. 2) If I feel I am measuring 'yesterday and today' then by reading my min-max twice a day (0900 and 1700) I can adapt and report a min and max for 'yesterday', and similarly for 'today'. i.e. no anomaly I favour option 2 because it is a regular event. If it only happened once or twice a year, I think I would favour option 1. Alternatively, I could find a fence and sit on it (-: -- Gianna Stefani www.buchan-meteo.org.uk |

![]() You could try 0901hrs - to 0859hrs, thus avoiding the 0900 reading, if your software allows ? I undertsand that certain professions for example dont have such a time at 0000hrs, they go for 2359 or 0001 to avoid problems Paul Crabtree Brampton N.E. That's life Norman. No system is perfect ! An 00:00 - 23:59 convention might be. After all, people wouldn't have to get up at midnight to check their equipment these days, whereas presumably the 09:00 - 09:00 system came about because it didn't disturb sleep.
