Default Next week's local weather beginning 10/02/07

This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the
privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may
unfold in Devon next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility
whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the
spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy
and wish to share freely with others.

Summary valid for Saturday 10/02/07 to Saturday 17/02/07
TOI (time of issue) Friday 09/02/07 1930 UK local time

This forecast is for all areas in Devon south of the A30 as far west as the
Tamar and as far east as the Exe.

Headline summary:

High confidence that the week will be changeable with showers or longer periods
of rain and windy with some gales. Mild generally but also some colder
interludes. Low confidence in any detail, particularly timing. Possibly turning
much colder over next weekend.

Synoptic summary:

A deep area of low pressure in mid-Atlantic will send fronts and vigorous small
depressions east across Devon during the week. Pressure possibly building from
the north next weekend introducing a very cold north-easterly.

Detailed forecast:

Overnight rain will clear away east early on Saturday morning and then a day of
sunny intervals and showers, some heavy with hail and thunder. Fresh to strong
southwesterly winds and very mild with temperatures 9-13C.

Sunday stays showery with strong to gale force westerly winds. Most dry weather
around the Exe with some sunshine. A bit colder than Saturday but still mild
with temperatures 7-11C depending on altitude. Winds easing in evening as winds
back southerly and turning colder, no frost though.

A wet day on Monday with light to moderate winds rather variable in direction
but turning into a strong to gale force northerly later in the day. Turning dry
in the evening. Starting mild but turning much colder in the evening. Maximum
temperatures 8-11C around midday. Possibly a ground frost on Monday night.

Tuesday looks like being a dry day with sunny spells and light winds.
Temperatures near normal at around 6-10C depending on altitude. Winds freshening
from the south in evening as a front approaches.

Some rain on Wednesday morning but soon clearing with a moderate to fresh
southwest wind bringing showers and sunny intervals. Temperatures 7-11C.

Thursday and Friday are a bit uncertain but look like being showery days with
fresh to strong, occasionally gale force SW winds, backing southerly later and
easing down. Mild with temperatures 9-12C.

On Saturday and Sunday pressure looks like building to the north of Britain
which will eventually push drier and much colder air south into Devon by the end
of the weekend with frost at night and a fresh east, or even north-east wind
setting in.

Outlook for the following week - snow possibly arrives in Devon - but very low
confidence.
