Default Penzance - Feb Mild so far.

The cold air never really reached the tip of Cornwall. As Will said,
there was no real easterly feed to get it here.

As a result the average temperaure for the 1st 9 days has not been
greatly different to January.

January 2007 average in Penzance was 9.1C, +2.2C from 1971-2000 norm,
a slightly smaller anomoly than places further east.

So far in February - 1st 9 days
Av Max 10.5
Av Min 5.1
Average 7.8 (Anomoly +1.2)
Absolute Minimum 2.7C (5th)
Lowest Max 7.1C (6th)

The main difference to January is the amount of rain. 61.3mm in the 72
hours to 09:00 today.

The big swell's just arriving

Sevenstones 08:00 - Height 9.5' - Period 10 secs
11:00 - Height 18.4' - Period 14secs
Predicted to top 30' later

There were some branches, and an entire tree down nearby this morning,
just 400 yards away. Yet the strongest overnight gust I recorded was
just 33mph. Must have been a severe squall or similar.

Interesting times.

Graham

January 2007 average in the Otter Valley was 7.6C, I have been comparing my
data with the nearby Exeter Airport data to try and get an eLTA, so far I
can say that Jan 2007 had a mean temp anomaly of +2.0C.

So far in February for the Otter Valley - 1st 9 days
Av Max 9.2C
Av Min 1.9C
Average 5.2C

Absolute Max 13.2C (4th)
Lowest Max 5.0C (6th & 7th)
Highest Min 8.5C (1st)
Absolute Min -3.5C (6th)

36.0 mm of rain so far.

As you say Graham it never reached you. It only just got here by the skin of its
teeth!!!
What was needed was another push from the north in the preceeding days.
A close run thing up here though, just 1 degree colder and I would have been
plastered with wet snow.

Worrying news about the swell, not what is wanted in Lyme Bay.

Looks like a wet and often windy week for the SW.

Cheers,

Will.

So far this month, 7.2 mm. By this time last month we'd had 139.6!

Now up to 28' off Land's End.

The swell is so big here now that the only relatively safe' places to
surf are where it's normally flat calm. There are few taking advantage
of a clean wave running along Newlyn harbour wall.
