The tide this afternoon was higher than any that I have seen here.
Talking a walk at about an hour after high tide, I was not a little surprised to see unusually high waves topping the harbour walls, with some tracks having been washed away, and assorted debris strewn along the coast. In other areas, deposits of rocks had made some tracks difficult. It has been almost a week since the last gale, with the wind being NE 3 at present (ENE 2 earlier). Sadly, I did not have a camera with me - the best of the afternoon light had gone and it was after sunset by the time we got back (1720). The spray formed into clouds which drifted inland and in some parts it was like walking through a thick, saline fog - good for the airways but less good for the camera (had I taken it). Waves were still regularly topping the walls even a couple of hours after high tide. -- Gianna |
