Channel 4
"The Great Global Warming Swindle"

" The prevailing global-warming view is that man-made emissions of
carbon dioxide are largely responsible. This film, featuring leading
academics ..... questions the science behind the accepted reasons for
global warming and argues that other explanations - including the effect
of the sun's radiation on the atmosphere - are not being properly
aired."

Thanks Martin. Since 'giving up' winter in 2002 I look forwards to
another view.
Even in my saddest dreams I never thought we would see winters this bad
snow-wise.
Cheers

Sounds interesting. Cheers Martin. It will be nice to hear things other than
"The Mantra" :-)
Hope it's good science though?

Will.

On ITV-1 at the same time is "Bonkers". Sums up my expectations.

I just hope they present all of the evidence and not leave out facts that do
not support their case. Unfortunately this rarely happens in programmes of
this kind.

Before the first-ever Equinox programme, the makers said that they would be
different from Horizon in that they would not aim to be even-handed. The
obvious bias in the first program - which was also against AGW - clearly
demonstrated their success. I've never seen the point of watching Equinox
since. Mind you, I also rarely watch Horizon as I think it would be better
located on the CBeebies channel. At least the Equinox programmers were
honest in their deception, much like the owner of the Sport newspaper who
admitted most of the stories in the paper were lies.

Thanks for the advance notice, Martin. I shall make a note to ensure I do not
miss it.
I shall wait until I have seen it before passing judgement, rather than
criticise it in advance!
I would however not expect them to present 'both sides of the argument' as the
point of the programme seems to be to present the 'other side' (climate change)
which is usually happily ignored by AGW broadcasts.

I don't think they are denying climate change but saying that man-made CO2
is not the main cause. That is fine with me as long as the facts they use to
support their case acuially represent the true position.

I get annoyed when, for example, someone staes that becasue glacier X is
getting bigger the climate is not warming up and toatlly ignoring the fact
that galciers A to W inclusive have shrunk. This is an extreme example but
if they can make their case without resorting to such tactics it will be
far more credible.

I know. That was my point. The programme looks to be about "Climate Change" as
distinct from "man made global warming". Denying climate change is unsupportable.

I assume that this is about the theory that solar activity modulates the
cosmic ray influx which then changes the rate of production of cloud
condensation nuclei which changes the amount of cloud cover which
changes the global temperature.

This was recently discussed on another newsgroup. The problem presented
(by a working climatologist) with this theory is that it doesn't predict
the observed chronological and geographical distribution of warming;
greenhouse warming is predicted to be greater at high latitudes, in
winter, and at night, which matches observations. This other theory
should predict that warming is greater during the day (because the
warming is due to a reduction in cloud cover).
