Default [WR] Sleet and mammatus, Kent and Berkshire

Better late than never...

At around 4:15 AM today there was a torrential sleet shower here in Leysdown
(north Kent, 10m asl) with a brief spell of very wet slow before
precipitation eased and the sleet turned back to rain. There was a further
sleet shower at 6 AM and I'm told there was at least one more during the
day.

Meanwhile on my weekly trip to Reading there was a half hour of sleet and
snow around 9AM, although it didn't settle. As the clouds cleared there was
an appearance of mammatus, something I can't recall seeing in winter before.

There's a picture halfway down my post at:

although as it was taken through a 1-inch thick window it's not the best!

Not a sausage here, although very dark clouds were seen to the north,
south, east and west. Dunno how we managed to miss everything! A few
spits of something on the window around 8pm while cooking tea (sausages
there!), but not even enough to dampen the ground. 2.8mm of rain
overnight though.
