What ever next, only flushing our toilets once a week. Is that what Al
Gore *calls an "inconvenience truth" ?

We have had bi-weekly collections here for about 4 years. No rats or
flies (unless you forget to put your rubbish out which quite a few
student houses seem to end up doing).

Ah yes, but what if your council does not provide bins, just plastic
bags specially designed to be ripped to pieces by whatever wildlife
passes? More and more taxes for fewer and fewer sevices.

All that's happening is that the councils that haven't yet gone over to
fortnightly collection are catching up with those that have, including
ours, having found that there is no increase in flies or rats - not least
because the design of the wheelie bins is good enough to prevent it. If
you didn't know that fortnightly collections are now widespread across the
country, perhaps you should get out more :-)

In St Albans rubbish is collected weekly and recyling (green waste,
glass, plastic and paper) is collected on a fortnightly basis. Rubbish
collection every fortnight would be fine with me as the volume of refuse we
put out is small. However I think it would only work if they switched from
bin bags to wheelie bins.

It has nothing to do with GW and everything to do with reducing the cost of
collection.

Mr Bradshaw is also of the persuasion that the Gulf stream is about
to change.
