You are right about the GW thing but wrong about the income tax, it's much the same as before (net) for most "normal" people. I would not dare use the term 'normal' (-: Most low paid people will pay more tax, while highly paid people will pay less. More tax will be paid in NI also. So, 'tax rise' seems a fair comment. -- Gianna http://www.buchan-meteo.org.uk * * * * * * * |

From 2008, 50K+ earners will save £150 per month in income tax. Poor old £20K per annum will save £7 per month. It's New Labour, rob the poor to pay the rich! Dave And persons earning less than 14k, of which there are a very large number, will pay more. Some persons on low, fixed incomes, will pay a great deal more. They are indeed robbing the poor to pay the rich, hence 'tax rise'. -- Gianna Apologies Gianna, I thought you were being ironic. We agree! I should never assume you would follow a media bandwagon. ;-) Dave http://www.buchan-meteo.org.uk * * * * * * * |

Only 6°C but at least there was no more of that horrible wintry stuff. I shall begin restoring my bicycle tomorrow (it has been in store in a damp garage). And soon ... the open road (and no taxes!). -- Gianna http://www.buchan-meteo.org.uk * * * * * * * |

Dave * * * * * * * They were incorrect and I merely informed you of that. I'm sure that Dave was already well aware of that. Judging by your response to his original post, I think that your sarcasm detector must be broken. I have not spoken to them, not least because I am speechless after the increase in income tax. At least it hasn't impaired your ability to communicate via the written word. ![]() -- John Hall "I am not young enough to know everything." Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) |

Anyway, we should get back to the weather now, before I start my "You

Yes the overall tax burden will increase but you said "increase in income tax" and for 'most' people, it will be (in 2008!) essentially income tax neutral.
