Here is a summary of the NWP output for 12z on Saturday.
Issued 0524z, 10th April 2007. There are still signs of a change to cooler conditions in the 7 to 10 day time frame, but before then dry and warm conditions will continue to affect much of the UK. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/avnpanel1.gif High pressure lies to the SW, leading to westerlies for all. The westerlies continue for most tomorrow as the high moves over southern England. On Thursday winds are light for all areas except NW Scotland as high pressure moves over the UK. The high builds over Scandinavia on Friday, bringing a mixture of easterlies for England and Wales and southerlies elsewhere. T+120 synopsis http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn12015.png / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1201.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif / http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif / http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/nogapse_cartes.php The jetstream chart shows a large ridge over Scandinavia and the jet itself heads NE'wards over Scotland and Northern Ireland. The 500hPa chart also shows a large ridge to the east, with a SW'ly gradient over the UK. ECM shows a stronger upper high over Denmark, while MetO has the high further south, over Belgium and the Netherlands. NGP shows an elongated upper high to the east and SE. At the surface GFS brings SW'lies for Scotland with light winds elsewhere due to a ridge. ECM has a mixture of easterlies and southerlies with a high centred over Sweden, as is the case with MetO. NGP brings southerlies and SSW'lies with a trough over Ireland. Evolution to T+168 ECM shows a continuation of southerlies and easterlies on day 6, followed by NW'lies on day 7 as a ridge moves in from the west. GFS brings a weak trough SE'wards across the UK on day 6, leading to westerlies and NW'lies. By day 7 cooler air moves in over the UK, with further NW'lies and westerlies. Looking further afield ECM shows a deep low to the NW on day 8 with westerlies for all, followed by WNW'lies on day 8 as the low moves away eastwards. SW'lies cover the UK on day 10 as another low deepens to the NW. A ridge topples southwards over the UK on days 8 and 9 with the GFS, leading to northerlies and NW'lies. By day 10 the ridge moves SE'wards, allowing westerlies to affect all areas. Ensemble analysis (http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ia/ensdia.html - last night's 18z) The ensembles continue to show a largely dry and warm week for most, followed by a return to more seasonal conditions. |
