Default [WR] Pontrhydygroes, Mid Wales. First rain since 30th March

Rain at last! It started to rain at around 5:30 this morning (Monday
23rd April), the first rain since the morning of 30th March.

This is the longest spell my weather station has recorded without rain
in its 2 years, and the longest I recall since I started manual recording
in 2000.

There have been a couple of days when there was light mist in the air
during this spell, which a more sensitive gauge may have picked up, but
nothing to make the ground damp.

First rain here in london for about the same length of time too. Not
much - enough to wet the ground. Better than nothing though.

Better than nothing? Why? It ruins a record but at the
same time is hydrologically totally insiginifcant. Also, it'll make
the roads just wet and slippery enough for there to be a few more
traffic accidents. Furthermore, it didn't fall on hot ground so not
releasing that nice smell. So, overall, poo to it.

Who cares about a record? And it only takes a small amount to sink in
to stop the grass going brown for a few extra days.

Light intermittent rain all day, some quite heavy showers mixed in.

BTW Adrian do you pronounce Pontrhydygroes has Pont-reed-grows ?
