================================================== ==============================
=== This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may unfold in Devon next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy and wish to share freely with others. ================================================== ============================== === Summary valid for Saturday 28/04/07 to Saturday 05/05/07 TOI (time of issue) Thursday 26/04/07 1730 UK local time This forecast is for all areas in Devon south of the A30 as far west as the Tamar and as far east as the Exe. Headline summary: It has been quite tricky trying to decide what next week's weather is going to be like. High confidence for continued warmth as we quickly approach what we in Haytor think is going to be a long and very hot summer due to high sea temperatures being maintained around the UK. Much lower confidence on rainfall, which could well be torrential in places, especially early in the week. Synoptic summary: Pressure will remain low as slack and thundery low pressure areas are maintained to the south and west of Devon. Later in the week a ridge of high pressure looks like pushing down from the northwest. Detailed forecast: Very difficult to attempt any daily detail so we won't bother. The theme up to Wednesday is for light and variable winds, but mostly from some sort of easterly point. A lot of cloud too and sunny intervals. 40% chance that any one spot will see at least one thundery downpour during this period. Some of the scattered thunderstorms are likely to be very heavy with torrential rain and a low risk of damaging sized hailstones. If I'm forced to pick out a prone area for storms I would say the Teign valley north from Christow down to Kingsteignton, possibly Torbay. East Dartmoor also more prone than the west but really anywhere could catch a downpour. Temperatures up to 18-23C during the day depending on altitude, lower temperatures also on coasts with an onshore wind. After Wednesday, moderate confidence that it will become mainly dry with increasing amounts of sunshine. Light winds, but possibly a moderate or fresh northeasterly for a while. Temperatures up to 16-21C during this period. Will Hand Chief Forecaster Haytor meteorological office " I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as fraud.
