Default Next week's Devon weather beginning 12/05/07 (Ten Tors)

================================================== ==============================

This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the
privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may
unfold in Devon next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility
whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the
spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy
and wish to share freely with others.

Summary valid for Saturday 12/05/07 to Saturday 19/05/07
TOI (time of issue) Thursday 10/05/07 2030 UK local time

This forecast is for all areas in Devon south of the A30 as far west as the
Tamar and as far east as the Exe.

Headline summary:

High confidence for a wet start to the week but then turning drier and warmer.

Synoptic summary:

An Atlantic low will come close to Devon on Sunday (track a bit uncertain) and
then transfer east into the southern North Sea by end of Monday allowing high
pressure to build slowly from the west in the second half of the week.

Detailed forecast:

Dartmoor:- Nothing unusual for the Ten Tors weekend. Showery on Saturday with
sunny intervals and a moderate to fresh southwest wind. Some hill fog at times
above 500m asl but otherwise visibility moderate or good. Maximum temperatures
10-13C depending on altitude. Turning dry on Saturday evening with cloud
clearing for a while and the wind turning light. Becoming chilly with
temperatures dipping to around 6C. However, around dawn on Sunday, rain and
strengthening south or southeast winds will set in ahead of Atlantic fronts.
Sunday morning will be wet with fresh to strong south or southeast winds,
however, the winds will ease later. Turning drier in the afternoon but still
with rain and drizzle at times. Maximum temperatures will reach 11-14C late in
the day depending on altitude after a cold start with temperatures 8-10C in the
rain. Fog at times on Sunday down to circa 400m asl especially after the winds
ease down in the afternoon.

Rest of area: This weekend will be similar to Dartmoor but milder with
temperatures reaching 15C on both Saturday and Sunday and, of course no hill fog
and lighter winds away from the coast.

Monday promises to be a much drier day in all areas with sunny spells and
showers. Moderate to fresh mainly westerly to northwesterly winds and
temperatures 12-15C depending on altitude.

A shallow low pressure system is expected to bring a very showery day on Tuesday
with possibly hail and thunder in places. Winds light to moderate and rather
variable but gusty in heavy showers. More in the way of sunshine later in the
day as winds veer into the northwest and freshen for a time. Temperatures again
12-15C. A cold night on Tuesday night into Wednesday with temperatures down to
4C in a few spots.

Wednesday should be fine and dry with sunny spells and light to moderate west to
northwest winds and temperatures 13-17C.

Moderate confidence that the rest of the week will then remain mostly dry with
sunny spells and light to moderate and mainly westerly winds. Temperatures
rising to 15-19C by Friday.
