Philip any reports of sleet given its been so cold ? i hear the Luton carnival has been postponed I was outside doing the midday ob when the temperature was at its lowest point, 4.6°C, and it was only rain. I guess sleet is just about possible, but I'm often of the opinion that reports of sleet in this sort of set-up are more wishful-thinking than anything else. Assuming a saturated adiabatic lapse rate, the freezing level is almost 900m above the ground here (is that right or am I having a cerebral brown-out?) It may be a little steeper than that, but not much. Whatever, it's still blinking cold. Philip |
