As of 0900GMT (10.00am BST) this morning:
Rainfall last night in period 27/1800 - 28/0900Z (15hr):- 30.4 mm (rain continuous as far as I could judge, with lengthy periods of heavy rain accompanied by wind to at least F6; heavy rain 'phases' set in after 2030Z and had ceased by 0430Z, with mainly moderate otherwise.) Rainfall in standard rain day for 24hr ending 28/0900Z:- 34.5 mm (this is the highest 24hr rainfall / 09-09Z, since the 45.1 mm that fell in the rain-day of the 7th August, 2002: however, that event was a result of two intense thundery-downpours, _not_ frontal PPN: perhaps more interestingly, the last time we had a major *frontal*/dynamic (though undoubtedly with convective elements) rainfall event of such magnitude was in October 2000, on the 29th (51.6 mm). The total rainfall this month (so far .. it's still raining steadily):- 115.5 mm, which represents 199% of the eLTA. This will be the third wettest May in a local series starting 1971. [the others are 1979 with 118 mm and 2000 with 150 mm.] Martin. -- Martin Rowley: data via - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/metindex.htm Bracknell (Wooden Hill/Tawfield), Berkshire NGR: SU 854 667 Elev: 80m Lat: 51DEG23MIN30SEC(N): Long: 00DEG46MIN28SEC(W) |
