lack of really chilly nights; three notably cold days towards the end of
the month.

As noted elsewhere, this May was the second-wettest such-named month in
the local composite record that began in 1971; if it were not for the
exceptional fall of rain that occurred in May 2000 (7th), this would
have been THE wettest May in that series.
