Minimum of 14.7C last night, warmest of the year so far.
Already 19.3C at 09:00 BST. So warm pools of surface water forming now, even well out to sea. E.g. Sevenstones yesterday:- 14:00 - 60.6 15:00 - 61.0 16:00 - 61.3 17:00 - 61.2 18:00 - 60.1 19:00 - 61.2 (Not centigrade obviously - I can't be bothered to convert it, anything 60f is warm) Warmer in the shallow waters of Mount's Bay. It fell from 60.4F at 2300z last night to 57.2F at 0300z this morning. Back up to 58.5F at 0700z. Norman. I think it's been so calm that pools of warm water form, even well out to sea. However, it looks like the main causes are the strong tidal current off Land's End. There was a very sudden drop in temperature around midnight, coinciding with the tide changing, and a similar drop at mid-day yesterday (the previous high tide). It then rose quite sharply after low water this morning. Graham Penzance |

Nowhere near as warm a night here, but then again I am 6 miles from the coast and on the floor of a wide open river valley. It went down to 11.3C here. What a day! Absolutely cloudless all day with a lovely sea breeze. Just before the sea breeze reached here at 12pm the temperature rose to 24.3C but ever since has been hovering around 22.5 - 23C. I'm off for a late-afternoon dip in that there briny down in Sidmouth (hopefully no wetsuit required, but I'll take it just in case). Currently at 15:45, 22.7C, RH 54%, DP 12.6C, 1016.3 mb (F), Wind 8 mph SSE. 9.6 hours of sunshine so far today. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
