Just come out the other side of the most extreme storm I have yet seen. 8pm
to 9pm BST. Nearly continuous lightning. Looked like an erratic strobe light. Averaging more than once a second. And RAIN!!! Just finished bailing out the kitchen, the bath filled with drain water, toilet too... Now receding. The most active, wettest storm with huge cross gusts at ground level. Sideways rain that made breathing an interesting exercise while I lifted drain covers to rod them (to no avail in the end....). Still rumbling away out there. Bugger!!! Had to be out in it :-) Anyone got any historical data showing what the peak strike rate for Folkestone was ? Must have been very high. It appeared to be constant lightning at one point. |

Surrounded by lightning.. one continuous peal of thunder. We went for a walk in the rain to watch the lightning from the Leas. But on our return things picked up and as I was watching out of the front door at that amazing lightning our kitchen started to flood, the bath filled up as the level in the drains rose higher than our floor level... We bailed out over the peak of the rain, such a relief when it started going down again! What a night! I'd love to see the local rainfall figures and strikerate! It was quite amazing up at Lydden Circuit. I was doing my regular Tuesday evening cycle race training session from 1900 - 2000. Constant lightning at one point. And the rain! At one point it eased off, only to come back heavier, it did this another three times. Lots of power cuts on the way back to Ramsgate. |
