OK it was only 14.3C up here but it didn't feel like March or April (even in the force 4-5 wind) - no way. Average day max. for March is 8C and April 11C. You're getting soft Jon :-) Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) Max 14C today, more like February ;-) My aunt's on her way over from Spain where it's regularly been 30C+ of late. I told her to prepare herself ! Jon. He he max 13.2C up here today Jon. Just like early May! Measured rainfall in past 24 hours 37.5 mm (Monthly total 116.7) and still heaving down, LOL. This summer is a bit like the 60s so far, hope we get a 60s winter too :-) Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

This summer is a bit like the 60s so far, hope we get a 60s winter too :-) I was thinking earlier that it was about time we had a truely wretched summer, well wretched by the standards of the last 20 years or so anyway. Well it's all downhill from now anyway, roll on winter! -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

You can always check out 1 of several St Ives webcams www.onestives.co.uk/StIvesCornwallWebcams.html Been OK here today, mainly dry, bright, coolish but the winds dropped. CEEFAX inshore forecast (from MetO I believe) said sea conditions would be rough to very rough from Land's End to St David's Head. The surf prediction was 2'. www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm shows which was correct. Hoping to go in tomorrow, as it should be pleasant enough right on the coast, if the wind is light as predicted. Let me know next time you're down. Graham Penzance |

The train service from Paddington to Truro isn't bad apart from the fact that it takes longer to get from Exeter to Truro, a distance of about 100 miles, than what it does to get from Paddington to Exeter, almost twice as far. Depart Paddington 1005 Arrive Exeter 1208 Arrive Truro 1421 -- MCC |

The rest of the line is so steep and bendy that I think there still an overall 60 mph limit and less in a few places. The time with steam trains was only 25 minutes longer than the present one. I wonder whether that is true of the run down to Portsmouth Harbour, which in the days when I lived on the isle of Wight, always seemed terribly slow. These days I have to travel up to town from Dorset so I always take the Yeovil Jct line, arriving early enough to take some tea at the delightful station buffet R |
