Default Long stretch of easterlies......

Looking at the progs sequence below..especially later next week..

It is many moons since I saw easterlies extending from Russia to the eastern
US. It does seem though that the continent is not excessively cold at
present ...so we may be spared the worst. See max forecast temps on this
prog...

Of course we don't need really low temps for lots of snow !

One thing I will add is that there is quite extensive snow cover over
Germany and Poland so temps should drop pretty quick once this thing
gets going :-)

See my European Data for yesterday snow depths across Europe.

Yes- I have seen a statement like this before..temperatures should
drop pretty quickly..so is this something like one degree per day
Keith?
Cheers Robin in (sheltered) Dorset but hoping for snow that his 4x4
cannot cope with therefore extending Half Term!

If snow is already on the ground before this easterly sets in over the
Continent it will speed up the cooling process. Is it were just grass
and soil a). this would probable start above feezing, b). Any sun
would reflect rather than obsorb during the day etc. So my thinking is
that once the air starts it's westwards journey it should be pretty
cold after a couple of clear nights over there.

As for the 1°c per day, who knows, what I am interested in is that it
is cold enough to snow and colder still to settle when the east wind
sets in.

Keep an eye on northern European temperatures.
