Has anyone here tried this?

I've been surfing in vain for louvered panels, so wondered if anyone has
any tips they could pass on?

You used to be able to buy Stevenson Screen kits for a fraction of the
exhorbitant price of the complete ones. Sadly, as far as I am aware,
they are no longer available.

Would the louvre doors that you can get in B&Q etc be suitable? Assuming
you can still get them, that is; it's a while since I've been in a DIY shed.

May be not quite what you're after but I built 'one' based on info from
this web site:

It's not that difficult to build a Stevenson screen. You need
reasonable woodworking skills and a fair amount of time. The raw
materials will set you back around £200 though, and there's the stand
on top of that, so the newer plastic screens are not as expensive as
they seem (and of course they'll need no maintenance). If you're
interested I have a copy of the 1937 HMSO plans to make one; my father-
in-law built me one (the large variant) in woodworking classes almost
15 years ago now and it's still in perfect condition.

What no DIY sheds on Orkney? What is the world coming to?

As to the doors, I think they are still available but they are a single
louvre, aren't the sides of a screen double? That is:

/ /\
/ Single /\ Double
/ /\

I guess you could just double up on the panels but ISTR they wern't cheap
and you would have to treat and paint 'em. Fiddly painting 'em.

I've been meaning to build one of these for some time but I'm still not
convinced that the relatively small volume won't still give rise to some
internal solar heating. How have you found it from this aspect?

There's a Jewson in Kirkwall, don't know if that counts. Don't know if
they sell louvre doors, either. If I want anything I phone up and they
send it over on the next boat. Handy, I call it.

I had a look in B&Q this week, but didn't see them.

I've seen that site, thanks.

Bit difficult to lay thermometers flat in it, unfortunately...
