Default Rain days and totals

Only 0.2mm yesterday and 0.4mm today, though goodness knows how much Filey
had!!
However, this now brings the number of rain days up to 35 out of the last
37, which surely must be unprecedented.
To give a perspective of how much rain there has been, I would estimate the
annual rainfall here to be 730mm, which nicely works out as 2mm per day. We
have now had 320mm in 37 days, ie around 8.6mm per day.
Assuming next Friday/Saturdays total to be 45mm (quite possible), this would
mean half our annual rainfall falling in 40 days.
I am looking out of the window, but there are no white doves on the horizon.

That's pretty phenomenal for a fairly dry area, especially
in June/July. The best I can do (in 24 yrs) would seem to be 306 mm
in 36 days (30 rain-days) 7 Sept to 12 Oct 1993. These are wetter
months than June and July, of course and the annual mean here is 830
mm, which may surprise some people.
If you actually get half your annual mean in 40 days and 40
nights you could name the first day after some local saint such as
John Prescott.
