The soil here contains a lot of gravel which are ice age related and is very free draining. Fortunately I remembered to treat the outdoor tomatoes with fungicide before the blight struck so they still look OK. The variety is supposedly blight resistant but independant tests have shown that not to be the cae. Alan |

I've planted 3 different varieties, treated them and they've all succumbed - still my courgettes have gone mad this year as well as my greengages and apples so it's not all lost. (salad leaves, peas and onions looking good too) |

What has the weather stopped me doing? Here goes: 1. Sweating like a pig when practising the trombone. 2. Gawping at scantily-dressed young women. 3. Mowing the lawn. 4. Getting up, except last Friday, obviously, when accurately timed measurements and photographs had to be taken. 5. Studying the night sky. 6. Moaning about my lot, not having been flooded. Some good, some bad. Well, I never! Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

However, I've been rained on, on every single long distance ride I've done since 5th May, bar one. It gets a bit old after a while! Dunwich Dynamo this weekend. Looks wet. That figures :-\ And The French Ride in 3 weeks! |

Or sweating like a pig in the night, and not getting any sleep. 2. Gawping at scantily-dressed young women PITY !!!! Reminds me of last summer, when I noticed in the city centre, a young woman of 18/19, wearing a chiffon cream top and tight skirt, underneath clearly seen, a black push up bra, and G-String! It's the only enjoyment I get now ! ;-) 3. Mowing the lawn. Only today has been rained off. I like the exercise, strips on the lawn, and smell of freshly cut grass. 4. Getting up, except last Friday, obviously, when accurately timed measurements and photographs had to be taken. 5. Studying the night sky. 6. Moaning about my lot, not having been flooded. I feel very lucky not to have been flooded, and sorry for the people that have. Some good, some bad. Well, I never! Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. -- Joe Egginton Wolverhampton ~175m ASL |
