Default Today's model interpretation (19/08/07)

As usual for a Sunday in the summer half of the year I'm off to the wolves
soon, hence this shorter analysis.

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Thursday. Issued
0511z, 19th AUgust 2007.

The models show a warm and generally settled end to the week. Beyond the
weekend they differ widely, however, with GFS showing a plume and then less
settled weather, while ECM introduces a cool NW'ly flow.

ECMWF: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...mwf/ecmwf.html
A ridge covers Scotland and Northern Ireland, leading to northerlies
elsewhere. The riedge moves slowly SE'wards at T+144, with little overall
change. By T+168 a trough moves down from the north as an upper ridge builds
towards Greenland. A ridge brings light winds for Englan and Wales, with
westerlies elsewhere.

MetO: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ukmo/pslv.html
The UK lies under WNW'lies due to a ridge to the west. The winds become
SW'lies at T+144 as a ridge extends over France and southern England.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
A ridge covers Ireland, leading to NW'lies over the UK. A trough approaches
Scotland and Northern Ireland on day 6, with a ridge bringing light winds
for England and Wales. By day 7 high pressure builds across the UK, with
light winds for all.

GEM: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da.../gem/pslv.html
The UK lies under NW'lies due to a ridge from the Azores High.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run also shows NW'lies for the UK, this time with a ridge to
the west.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NGP shows a large high over England and Wales, with SW'lies elsewhere.
