Default Autumn is coming early to Haytor

Just been walking round my gardens and it is really starting to look quite
autumnal. My mature sycamore tree now has a lot of leaves turning brown/yellow.
Grass is slowing down growth and some of the shrubs in the deciduous border are
losing their leaves. In the distance leaves on upper branches of trees have a
brown tinge. Plenty of debris (twigs, small branches) after today's winds add to
the autumnal feel as well as the temperature of 11C. Still with the earth
temperatures some 2-3 deg C lower than last year it is perhaps not too
surprising.

Will.

I was going to post something similar earlier. I have noticed a lot of
trees are starting to show yellows and oranges here. and the bracken is
rapidly turning brown (this usually happens in late September/ early
October.

I can't remember an earlier onset of autumn.

No sign here of the bracken turning (an unlikely north/south reversal)
but the rowan in the garden has a mass of red berries and the silver
birch are looking a bit tired

My nettles are all dying off. I haven't noticed before when nettles
normally do this, but I have such a fine crop here in such vast
quantities that I can't fail to notice this year.

Never short of ingredients for a warm and nutritious soup then Steve ;-)
(except, of course, when the nettles die off . . . . . . . .)

The young tips make a splendid spinach too!... Normandy butter with the sea
salt crystals in & black pepper on nettle tops freshly wilted in a tad of
olive oil and a smidge of water... beautiful!

With the distinct lack of summer this year, I didn't think I was looking
forward to winter particularly much, but now it's got slightly colder, I'm
kind of looking forward to it.

Still personally going for a roaring westerly one, but there's no science
behind that. Just feeling that the UK is due a sizeable blow in the near
future!

I noticed that Richard, but thought it might be due to near zero rainfall
for over a month as well?
