Default High in the wrong place

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :-) In this part of the SE it was,
for me, just about the perfect summer day. The stickiness of yesterday
had all gone and the intermittent cloud cover kept the temperature in
the high teens. There was a pleasant coolish breeze too. Not an ideal
day, though, for those who like hot sunshine.

I'm surprised at the low temperature readings as in the Liphook area
of Hampshire it felt seasonably warm, about 21 or 22C. That area does
have a lot of sandy soil though which is supposed to make things
warmer?
I could comfortably stay still around 6pm in light clothing anyhow.

Nick

well so far the replies seem to be from those in the South West which

in the SE. Its just not warm enough, I dont call 20C warm for Late
August
and with this Northerly flow around the High which is still too far West,
no
matter what the rest of you enjoy - you are obviously all active
gardeners

hammock. Definitely no sitting out in the garden chairs after 6pm
already!
and its not even late September yet, though it feels like it. I still say
the High is too far West and continue to moan.

The average temperature at this time of the year in the Midlands is
20C - I think you will find it si 22C in London and the SE - that can
still be cool by evening in the hammock:-)

This is normal, and for those of us around in the 1960's, this was
ABOVE NORMAL, so enjoy it while you can - it will be autumn in 4 days
time FFS!!!!!!

Too right. For those with short (or even no) memories I suggest you
may like to visit

http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~ta...er_in_july.htm

or either of the other two summer months for that matter. May I
recommend you start by reading about July 1956?

As I said a few weeks ago Dave it seems that high pressure forms
everywhere around but has largely avoided the UK this summer. This is
continuing the trend. Fronts are getting dragged around the present high
so despite a better overall synopsis we are still faced with mountains of
cloud blocking out the late summer sun. West London looks good this
morning.

This must be one of the most boring set-ups.
A NW flow giving slightly below to average temps. possibly breezy
and quoite a lot of cloud.
